How To Write A Bucket List

Bucket Lists: A list of goals or aspirations someone wishes to complete before they kick the bucket. Usually you will hear someone say that doing something extremely challenging or adrenaline pumping is on their bucket list. To some the items on these lists are a little out of reach, so how does someone go about creating a list that they can actually fulfill? That’s where I am here to help. Here’s a simple guide on how to write a bucket list that suites your life no matter who you are!

Guidelines

Write It Down

Buy a journal, create a word doc, paint it on the walls of your garage, anything! Having a tangible written reminder helps you remember what it is that you’ve wanted to do, and can set the stage for when you are feeling ambitious. There is also an added sense of accomplishment when you get to actually physically cross an item off.

Think Small

No dream is too small. We have all heard that phrase a million times, but too many people believe that the only things that can go on to a bucket list are colossal feats. That may be someone else’s bucket list, but ask yourself have you always wanted to bake a pie? Ride a bike at the beach? Watch a certain movie? Then add it to your list! It doesn’t have to be all about jumping out of airplanes and running with the bulls, if you want to watch elf and eat pancakes for dinner then viva la vida!

Get Specific

“Travel the world” okay like where? Israel? Australia? Down the street? Set specific goals that once done can be checked off. The more specific you are the easier it will be to check items off your list. Once you start seeing more and more items checked off and you get to reflect on each of those adventures, you’ll be inspired to think bigger and dream more!

Set Reasonable Aspirations

Don’t set too high of goals that are not attainable, instead start off by focusing on the steps up to that big goal. For example if you want to travel the United States, list specific states you wish to travel. That way you can see all the states you have gone to so far and view which you have to plan future adventures for. Instead of writing “Learn How To Cook” list some dishes you have dreamed of attempting. By setting smaller, more gradually attainable goals you provide yourself with a foundation of a list that you can check off over a period of time and see your progress. Rather than waiting a lifetime to check off one vague topic on your list you will have tons of check marks that span over years.

Have Fun With It

It’s your bucket list. Not your cousins, your neighbor’s, or ex coworker that you still have on social media, it is yours. If you want to dye your hair green for saint patty’s day then cheers! Want to wear a cheeky bikini in Hawai’i?  As they say.. Suns out buns out! The point is this is YOUR list, we all have some ridiculous dreams and goals, so might as well make some of them happen before we kick the bucket!
